Project Download (Release) System
The Downloads System is intended for managing releases to your users (as compared to the "Files" section, which is for sharing files with your development team!). It allows you to upload releases, and to publish a specified set on the project summary page as "Featured Downloads".
Adding a new download
Releases are added and featured in the Admin tab, Downloads section. To create a new release click the "+" icon in the "Add Download" section, select the file to upload from your computer, enter a description and choose a platform. Click "Add" to start uploading the file.
The file types you can upload include: zip, gz, tar, bz2, rar, sis, sisx, wgz, wgt, jar, jad, tbz, swf, tgz, 7z, pdf, deb, rpm, pkg, xap.
Once a file is uploaded it will appear in the "Downloads" list (shown above), along with the platform information, upload date, and the number of times the file has been downloaded by your users.
Note that some additional parameters can be defined for the upload and are visible in this section. These parameters are discussed in #Other download attributes
Featuring a download
To make the file appear on the Summary page it must be marked as a "Featured Download". Simply select the checkbox next to all downloads that are to be featured, select "Featured" in the selection list, and then press "Apply". A small tick symbol is displayed next to the featured files and they are displayed on the Summary page.
You can de-feature a file by ensuring it is unchecked the next time "Featured" is applied.
Removing a file
In most cases you will simply de-feature older files and keep them in the downloads list - this keeps them available for later reference. However should you choose to, you can delete a set of files by selecting them (via their checkbox), choosing "Remove selected items" from the selection list, and then pressing "Apply"
Other download attributes
The downloads system allows you to choose some additional attributes for each file release: Platforms, File types, Component, Versions. Only the "Platform" is displayed on the Summary page, but the other information is shown on the project's wiki Download page.
We provide a set of default values for each of the attributes, but you can add, modify or delete them as you wish. You can even remove a whole attribute from the UI, simply by removing all its associated options.
Modification of the attributes is done in several sections of the Admin tab:
- Downloads System
- Platforms
- Types
- Ticket System
- Components
- Versions
Displaying downloads in your wiki
A "Downloads" wiki page is automatically created in your project, and provides your users with access to both featured and historic releases.
This wiki page uses the FeaturedDownloads and ListDownloads WikiMacros to display all information about your downloads. You can use a number of other macros (listed below and described here) to customise the information displayed:
- DownloadsCount - list the number of downlods
- ListDownloads - list all downloads
- FeaturedDownloads (or ListFeaturedDownloads) - list featured downloads
- CustomListDownloads - list specific downloads and download information
- CustomFeaturedDownloads (or CustomListFeaturedDownloads) - list specific featured downloads and download information
