BitKinex Quick Start
BitKinex is a freeware FTP, SFTP and WebDAV client for Windows. It can be used as a WebDAV client to access project files.
Setting up BitKinex for first use
Proxy settings
If you're behind a proxy you will need to enter your proxy settings including its address and port. These should be obtained from your network administrator.
- Click File -> Options. BitKinex notifies that you are configuring generic settings (press OK)
- Click on Firewall/Proxy.
- Enter your proxy settings
- The proxy Type is usually "HTTP"
- Server field is the IP address of the proxy, for example "192.168.1.1"
- Port is something like "8080".
Setting up a new connection
Configure the server details
When you first open BitKinex it shows a number of preconfigured FTP and WebDAV shares. First you need to enter your new server details:
- Right-click on “Http/WebDAV”
- Select New -> Http/WebDAV.
- Type a name for the connection (we suggest your project name).
- When you select Enter a popup window will open. Fill in the fields as shown below:
| Field | Value | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Server address | projects.developer.nokia.com | |
| Security | SSL | |
| User | <your Nokia Developer username> | NokAndrea |
| Password | <your Nokia Developer username> | MySuperSecretPassword |
Configure the Data Source details
To access files, you then need to tell BitKinex where your WebDAV project is located:
- Select Data Source
- Enter the path to the WebDAV resource for your project, i.e. /dav/<project’s id>. The project’s id is the same as the URL path for your main page, for example the URL of the Help and Support project is http://projects.developer.nokia.com/HelpAndSupport/ so the project’s id is "HelpAndSupport".
- Click OK
Notes:
- From the Data Source section you can change the name of the connection (which you specified above).
- You can also organise connections in folders; this is useful if you're managing a number of projects.
Connecting to your WebDAV server
After the connection is created, you can open it by double clicking on it in the BitKinex client.
This opens a new window which you can use to browse both local and remote file systems, and to perform file operations including drag and drop copying, and creating, deleting and renaming both folders and files.
