Tracking Project Change

Projects provides a number of mechanisms for tracking change. You can Follow a project to receive notifications of any change, subscribe to just specific tickets or discussions, or subscribe to RSS feeds. In addition to notifications, you can also browse lists of changes. The options are all discussed in the following sections.

Following

Following a project is the easiest way to receive notification of any change. Following is simple - just select the Follow button in its Summary page. After selection the button changes to "Unfollow"; you can toggle the button again to stop following the project. Follow button on Summary page

By default, notification is through immediate email. You can change the notification type to daily or weekly using the "Follow" tab of your preferences/settings (accessible in My Projects). You can also use the checkboxes to stop following any or all of your projects. Follow tab on Projects preferences

Ticket tracking

If you create a ticket, you are automatically notified of any changes to the issue, including state changes and new comments.

Project members you can additionally subscribe for notification to any ticket (whether they created it or not) by adding themselves to the ticket CC list. You will first need to select the "Modify" link in the top right of the ticket. Press "+" next to the CC box to get list of project members you can select. Alternatively, enter email addresses/user names as a comma separated list. Lastly, press the Submit changes button.

Note:  By default, only Project members (not public contributors) can edit the CC list. Project administration can give the right to edit the CC list to a group by adding the permission TICKET_EDIT_CC.

Whether or not you're a contributor you can also track new tickets or changes to a particular ticket using #RSS Feeds.

Discussion tracking

Projects allows you to Subscribe to either a particular post or to a whole discussion board, simply by selecting the Subscribe button to the right of the discussion (or discussion board) heading. After a few seconds the button text will change to "Unsubscribe". When you create a discussion you're subscribed to it automatically (but you can still choose to unsubscribe). RSS Feeds

RSS Feeds provide a convenient way for tracking new tickets and discussions, and for tracking changes to specific tickets or discussions. RSS feed URLs can be copied from the "Download in other formats" section at the bottom of tickets, discussions, ticket lists, forum lists and the Timeline. RSS Feed formats The project Timeline by default includes all changes to the project, but you can configure what changes are displayed and over what timeframe. This allows you to create RSS feeds for the whole project, or just (for example) for changes to the wiki or to featured downloads.

Browsing

The preceding options are all "notifications". This section explains how you can review recent changes.

Announcements

Projects have a dedicated discussion board for communicating important changes to its members and users - this is called "Announcements". You can subscribing to this forum using the mechanisms described in the preceding sections.

Project Summary and Timeline

The project Summary tab displays just the last 5 changes to any part of a project. The Timeline tab displays a list of all changes, allowing you to filter the changes based on timeframe and on area of projects.

My Projects

My Projects (link is on top of every Project page) displays the active tickets and discussions from all of your projects. This can be very useful for getting a quick overview of all your project activity.
