Web2SMS for Nokia N9 and N950 (MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan).
Make use of the (free) on-line SMS your provider offers you via your phone without the hassle of clicking trough their entire website.
Frequently asked questions
How does it work?
The program works on two ways:
- Either the provider does only offer a (mobiile) website which allows you to send sms messages. Then this application will appear as browser and navigate through the website for you and fill out the forms that are needed to send a message
- Or the provider offers and API for sending messages. Then the program simply uses this API for sending messages. (this is the preferred way)
Currently the messages are sent to our server (which is also opensource) which does the actual dispatching for your phone. This saves bandwidth and also works with bad internet connectivity. Later versions of the program will also run the plugins locally on the phone. The server communication is done with SSL and does not save any login data, numbers or messages. The logfiles only log your ip address as well as the provider you used and whether sending succeeded or not. The server replies back to your phone via Ovi Notifications (Push Notification), so it can set the right send state in the application.

Can you add provider xyz?
We have an own section that tells you how to request an provider.
Can you add WhatsApp or Viber?
No, we can't! Web2SMS is for sending sms messages via the internet. WhatsApp and Viber are not sms services. Instead they use a proprietary instant messaging protocol which is mixed with push notifications. The receiver also needs their software to work.
Are sent messages visible in the standard messaging application?
Yes, it's fully compatible with the standard application. You do not see any difference to real sms messages.
I can't enter numbers manually
You can enter numbers manually but you have to type "+1234567" and then a comma, so the number gets surrounded by a colored rectangle. Numbers without a colored rectangle are not accepted as recipients.
Are the messages free?
This depends on your provider and where you send your messages.
Do you have any income from this program?
No, we do this for fun. If you like you can donate some money to support us.
The program is English, can you translate it?
Since we're a team of Germans, we can only speak German and English. If you want the program to appear in your language, you can translate it here and we will add your translation to the next version.
Screenshots are cool, where are they?
Just take a look at the wiki page for screenshots :)
Can I participate / see the source code?
Yes, you can. See https://gitorious.org/web2sms for details.

We have started a wiki page for that
